Original Shows

I design experiences that surprise, delight and challenge audiences of all ages, helping them fall (more) in love with music.

Conducting An Experiment

Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra

Discover how conductors attempt to understand the wishes of composers (dead or alive!), translate them into body language and lead a group of other musicians they just met to work as a team to bring the music to life. Enjoy a live demonstration with a small ensemble from the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.

Ears Wide Open: Clara Schumann’s Piano Concerto

Styled after Bernstein’s popular talks, it introduces thematic material, breaks down the structure of the work, highlights harmonic tension and includes interviews with performers, plus complete performances of each movement.

Encounter the Orchestra: The Four Seasons

Melbourne Chamber Orchestra

Designed for primary school students aged 6-12, this show revealed how elements of music are used to create atmosphere through Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and Calvin Bowman’s Daylesford Music. During the show students learned, practiced and performed a new song by Karen Kyriakou including singing and body percussion.

In addition to writing and presenting the show, I created pre- and post- show resources for non-music primary teachers, sing-a-long and body percussion videos and delivered Zoom and in person workshops to teach students the song ahead of the show.

The Curiosity Show: Sounds Like Science

Victorian Youth Symphony Orchestra

In 2018 I contacted my childhood heroes, Rob & Deane from TV’s The Curiosity Show and asked if they’d like to do a show with an orchestra. Twelve months and one National Science Week Grant later we gave two sold-out shows. The show introduces audiences of all ages to the science of sound and the instruments with live demonstrations, hilarious audience participation alongside a performance of Britten’s Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, plus music by Queen, Tchaikovsky, Johann Strauss and Tchaikovsky.
